John Fuog and his staff recently completed our Equestrian Complex at St. Bride’s Farm in Upperville, Virginia. The structures were designed by an architect and built by Fuog/InterBuild to specifications set forth in the plans. The project consisted of a ten-stall barn, a 200 x 80 indoor arena and hay barn. The goal was to construct an environmentally responsible “green structure”, using only sustainable wood species, as many recycled elements as possible, and energy efficient technology.

The architect was not involved for the majority of the construction so there were many design/build challenges, which required research, creativity and frequent communication. In addition to our weekly progress meetings, we often met daily to discuss the many challenges the project presented. Due in large part to our “green” goals, many of the elements used in the project had not been used before so the staff did not have specific installation specifications and instructions. John’s project manager Jamie Hockmuth and staff addressed these challenges, problems and unforeseen events professionally, problem solved often and located competent professionals and trades people to find solutions that met our goals.

In 2012 we have agreed to participate in the 58th annual “Barn Tour”, sponsored by Trinity Episcopal Church in Upperville, VA. This tour is the major fund-raiser for their Community Outreach programs. If this year is representative of years past, we expect 1800 people to tour our barn over a two-day period. Being asked to participate is a compliment and demonstrating to others building an environmentally responsible, aesthetically pleasing structure is possible is very important. We hope that others will follow our example and choose a more responsible method of building.

John and his staff did a wonderful job and my team and I are very proud to have worked with John and his staff to realize our dream.

My Building is finished and it looks great. It was hard for me to visualize the final product, but as advertised it turned out great. Also the process was almost painless. There was just one minor bump in the road that was worked out to our mutual satisfaction in a matter of minutes. The time to complete was also right on schedule even with a few minor material delays.

I would like to take this opportunity to complement Phil and his crew that put the building up in the heat of July and August. They did one fine job. The sub-contractors also have done excellent and timely work. The finished grading of the property turned out very well. I also want to pay my highest complement to your office staff. In particular to Dawn and Sandra, they were always extremely pleasant, helpful and efficient. It was a pleasure to have to make a phone call to your office.

In closing I would like to say that I certainly picked the right people to build my building. Thanks again, and good luck and smooth sailing to you and your staff.

I just wanted you to know, you and your team did an outstanding job building our stables and indoor arena. In little over a year, everything was permitted and built and we were able to move in the horses. Our experience was positive from start to finish.

Dear Mr. Fuog,

When we approached Fuog/lnterBuild about building a house with an attached barn, we had never attempted such a complex construction project After listening to our requirements (open floor plan with a loft, a two-car garage, center aisle barn and an overall rustic feel to the house and barn), Roger Littlefield. your assigned project manager, recommended that the entire structure be built utilizing post and beam construction with board-and-batten exterior siding.

Roger helped guide us through the entire construction process including design, permits, and of course the actual construction. During the design phase, Roger suggested several modifications that improved the appearance and usability of the house and barn. He suggested that the front of the structure be highlighted with actual stone. This really complements the exterior siding. He also suggested that the loft area be cantilevered over the center beam of the house. This greatly increased the usable area in the loft.

From the oak stained tongue and grove second floor and the exposed beam ceiling over the kitchen and dining area to the real tree-trunk posts in the loft, our new home and barn exceeds our expectations in rustic charm and beauty.

I would like to thank Roger and the entire Fuog/lnterBuild team for making our rustic dream house and barn a reality.

Thank you so much for building my beautiful new barn addition and blending it so well with the old barn, newly upgraded by Fuog/InterBuild. My goal was to build the barn by Spring, in time for the two broodmares to become comfortable with the foaling stalls, etc. before foaling time. You delivered the new barn, fully complete and state-of-the-art right on the dot – the first day of Spring.

Thanks also for beginning the barn so promptly and moving the process along through ever-changing weather. What had promised to be a stressful time, since my horses were on the property and still using the old barn, was actually fun. I always knew what was to happen on any given day so that I could plan moving the horses out of the way. The builders were all skilled and always cheerful. Hearing “O Solo Mio” sung well at 7am was something I never expected to hear. Also, you accommodated the several changes I decided to implement as the project progressed very comfortably. You also suggested several changes and improvements that we’ve used to make the stable work better. And it is a very nice place to work in. The horses are really enjoying the new facilities. All of my friends and neighbors have given the stable a big thumbs up!

I will miss all of the daily activity, but thanks so much for making the building of my new stable a very pleasant experience.

Dear John, I want to express my appreciation for your help in completing our barn/apartment project.

Your engineer’s decision to enhance the architect’s floor layout with a 24′ clear span in the upstairs apartment provides a great open space to enhance our views. Your crew’s ability to remain flexible as we refined the design details during construction allowed the other trades to work efficiently and their experience throughout the job helped to make all those small details work together to create a barn and apartment building that we are very proud of. I want to take this chance to thank everyone at Fuog InterBuild: you, Mr. Fuog, all the construction guys for allowing me to realize a twenty-something year old dream. There were many years that I thought I would never have a horse of my own. Now I’ve had three for almost nine years. Thanks to everyone there, I also have a beautiful stable that I thought would never be possible!

My husband and children tease me sometimes due to the fact that after the posts had been set I went out and stood among what felt like the ribs of Moby himself, in awe of what would come to be known as my “equine cathedral”. It might not be such a monumental thing for a company that’s used to constructing buildings ten times the size of our stable, but for me it’s everything I had hoped for so many years would eventually materialize if I just kept faith in my dream.

I very much believe that sometimes something is truly meant to be. Thank you for helping me achieve that. I know it would have been an impossibility without your involvement. Thank you also for your honesty and patience with a person that had never done anything like this before.
